New Rules Proposed by Wisconsin DNR for Shoreland Zoning

After several years of meetings, hearings, deliberations, and over the strong objections of both property owners and municipalities, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has put forward proposals for revised shoreland zoning rules (NR115) affecting thousands of waterfront property owners in Wisconsin. Additional listening sessions were held in early September, finalized changes to the rules have not been published as of this writing. The PLIA, while having significant concerns about the proposed changes, has not taken a final position on the new rules at this time. Several Wisconsin DNR publications relating to this topic are available from the PLIA including the current rule set, the revised rule set, an FAQ sheet, a fact sheet, a report to the legislature, and a June 2009 Natural Resources Board Agenda Item. Further information is availabe on the DNR website here.
